Jesse Owens Classic
The Bradley Central Cross Country teams had their best performance of the year this past weekend at the Jesse Owens Classic in Moulton, AL. Every runner that competed turned in their best time so far this season. On the girls side, Jacquelin Pitcock repeated as silver division champion in a field of 255 runners finishing with a time of 19:18 which was 22 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Finishing next for the Bearettes was Andrea Spencer who finished 59th in a time of 22:01. Following closely behind her was Megan Pace who finished 62nd in a time of 22:04. All three girls received elite runner status by finishing in the top 75. On the boys side, freshman Paul Patterson finished 16th in a time of 17:11. Following him was Jake Curtis who finished 39th in a time of 17:45.
Quote from Coach Cotton: “I am very proud of the performance that we turned in today. Our kids love to run on this course. Jackie had a good week of practice and it showed as she ran by far her best race of the year. Andrea was on the homecoming court Friday night so she had to get up at 4:00 this morning and ride all the way here so to perform as well as she did is good. And Megan ran her best time of the year by almost 2 minutes. Paul Patterson continues to impress me. He runs like an upperclassman and he is only a freshman. He has unlimited potential. Jake had practiced great all week and I told him before the race that I expected his time to improve, and it did. It is still not where he wants it to be but if he keeps training he will get there. I am so proud of the kids this weekend. We only took 5 runners, but every one of them made elite runner status. That is something to be proud of.”
