Another year is upon us and that means it is time for another season of cross country. After a summer of grueling workouts in the heat, it is time for all of the hard work to pay off. After failing to win the region for the first time in 3 years, the girls are looking to be on top once again. They will be led by a trio of seniors. Jacquelin Pitcock, who finished 5th last year in the state, will be returning with aspirations of becoming the school’s first state champion in cross country. Andrea Spencer will be dividing her time between cross country and soccer but has been training hard and looking forward to her senior season. Megan Pace looks to rebound from an injury that kept her from running track and is looking forward to her best season so far. The loss of two key varsity members (one to graduation and one choosing not to run this year) has the girls looking for a couple more runners to carry on the tradition. Those runners will more than likely come in the form of volleyball players. Elizabeth Triplett, Rebecca Garrett, and Alison Hayes will all join the team to run when volleyball is not going on.

The boys team will be hoping to field a full team for the first time in three years. They will be led by a junior and a freshman. Junior Jake Curtis had an outstanding AAU track season and looks to carry that momentum over into a successful cross country season. Just missing out on the state meet last year should have him that much more hungry for a trip to Nashville this year. Running right along side of him will be freshman Paul Patterson. The youngster has already proven himself as a true running talent. If he continues to work hard he will also punch a ticket to Nashville come November. The final boy is Jessie Garrett. After not running his junior year, Jessie has returned for his senior year and is looking to help the team reach great success. The boys are looking for a couple more runners so that they will be able to field a full team for the first time in three years. If that happens, there is a chance that the boys team can make the state meet for the first time in 5 years.
